What is tape and jointing?
Tape and jointing is used as a drywall finishing technique. Joint tape is placed over the seams of the plasterboard to create a smooth service, which can then be used for a more aesthetically pleasing decorative surface. This service is faster and cleaner than plastering, using multiple coats of compound and tape with plenty of sanding to create the effect that it does. Hiding screw heads and board joints gives you greater freedom of choice when it comes to the appearance of your home or office. This is because there are no awkward bumps that you have to negotiate when decorating or redecorating your room.
Why should I carry out tape and jointing?
When J&J Ceilings & Partitions carries out work of this nature, one factor most people ask us about is the speed with which we can get the job done. Tape and jointing is a lot quicker than traditional plastering, so this is a critical reason why this service is often asked for. Full plastering can also be a messy proposition, so tape and jointing is a significantly cleaner service, which helps save time when it comes to clearing everything up after the event. The finish also creates a wonderful effect, meaning that there are no snags or random bits and bobs that can affect the smoothness of your wall. This surface is then completely free to do whatever you want with it.
What process do you use?
The first step is to make sure that the edges of the plasterboard are clean and aligned, setting the foundations in place. The first coat is then applied over the joints, and the mesh tape or paper is embedded into it. A second and third coat are then applied to ensure the finish looks great and that the entire wall is covered. Sanding takes place after each layer of compound is applied so that there are no imperfections and to create the smooth, desired surface. A drywall sealer is then applied before painting can take place so that the board does not absorb paint differently from the compound, and so that an even colour can be distributed on the wall.
